Review – This was the hotel that I stayed in while I was in Xiamen for a gastronomical food trip after hearing so much about the place. You guys can check out my food posts later on www.eatwithroy.com. Booked this place mainly for its locality and also it looks ‘good’ on the booking site. Surprisingly, some cab drivers do not know where this hotel is (located beside the famous road some more!), hence knowing the address in Chinese is very important. Reached the hotel, the first thing that pissed me off was the escalators. Why build escalators when you don’t on them? Save power? I applause you for that but at your customers’ expenses? So if you have heavy luggages, please avoid this hotel ‘cos no bell boys at all… and yes, I had to climb the stairs after walking about 8-10km everyday from my food adventures. Rooms are alright, decorations are ok. Booked the deluxe twin room but I reckon I was expecting too much. No wifi, LAN is also not working. Good thing is walking distance to all the famous places like Taiwan Street, Ferry Terminal to Gulangyu Island, and cab is not expensive.
Amenities – Very basic.
Service – The concierge is friendly but could be better with some speed in checking in. No porters at all, hence you have to carry your stuffs yourselves… skip the tips! 🙂
Sleep Quality – Walls are pretty sound proof but not the doors and windows. You can hear very clearly when the bus arrives at the bus stop downstairs and people talking loudly (a typical hard of hearing syndrome here)… even the chambermaids! Beds are pretty comfy though, not hard.
Breakfast – Provided for 2. Tried only on the 2nd and 3rd day. Very local type of brekkie. Don’t expect egg stations and sausages/bacon.
RTS (Return To Stay) – Nope. Will try others next time.
Overall – 3/5.
